Revolutionary War officer; son of Bezaleel Howe (1717-1751) and Anna Foster Howe (1715-1790) of Massachusetts. Howe entered the army as a private and in 1776 was lieutenant of the 1st New Hampshire regiment. He was wounded at Stillwater. At the close of the war he was aide-de-camp to Washington.
